The Pros are way too big!

The apartment is VERY old, but everything runs like it is brand new (appliances, AC, Heat). It is VERY SAFE and CONVENIENT! I can go to the Optometry School whenever I need to which is great since I need to practice a lot. Overall, very happy with UP!

You can smell your neighbor smoking weed.

Pros: it is within UAB compound --so walking distance to the library and to the hospital. Also near several restaurants. They have a business office - you can print. Staff is really nice. The lounge is clean and smells good
But... outside the lounge and the common area, the rest is in a bad shape.
The cons are numerous. It is old. The carpet, if you are unlucky to get those units with carpets, is disgusting. (Also, the hallway is carpeted but a significant area is not covered by the roof so it... gets moist (from the rain, looks unclean and you can imagine tiny creatures living in the moist cloth.) The tiles in the bathroom are old. The WORST -- the walls are thin and the exhaust is interconnected. I have to put a tape in our exhaust because I can smell food smell coming from other neighbors. Even with the tape, I can smell my neighbors' smoking (cigarette and weed!!!!). It is a real torture. Overall, save yourself and go somewhere!

This is my fifth year living in University Place Apartment.I couldn't imagine that when we travelled to Birmingham,Alabama , I would find a safe warm friendly place like UP!! It is a walking distance to UAB, very safe , and above of all very warm !! Thank you Cathy !! Thank you William ,thank you Jeff, thank you Tiffany !! Thank you BJ for bringing back the spirit of University Place !!
